AIM – To report a distinct & sporadic case of congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscles(CFEOM).
METHOD – 9 year old girl presented for bilateral ptosis & restrictive ophthalmoplegia since birth. She was the first child of a non-consanguineous marriage, born at full term with a birth weight of 2.5 kg. The perinatal history was unremarkable. The parents noticed that their daughter had bilateral droopy eyelids since birth. Otherwise her feeding & growth were satisfactory & there were no other systemic symptoms. As both of her visual axes were blocked by the eyelids & affected her visual development, her vision was hand movement in right eye and 6/12 in left eye. On examination palpebral fissure height was 4 mm in both eyes. Both eyes were hypotropic by 10 deg & all ocular movements were restricted. We did inferior rectus recession in both eyes. On follow up her ophthalmoplegia & ptosis were static and did not deteriorate over the last few months.
