Aim: To establish non-inferiority of squint surgery with minimal dissection and nonuse of cautery. Methods: In this double MASKED RANDOMISED trial, patients received conventional squint surgery with liberal dissection and standard use of cautery (group 1) or minimal dissection and nonuse of cautery (group 2). T test was used to calculate p value. P>0.05 was used to establish the non-inferiority. Results: In group 1 there were 6 patients and in group 2 there were 8. There was no difference in the age of the patients (p=0.2) and amount of deviation (p=0.8) in two groups. Post op orthotropia was achieved in all the patients in group 1 and 6 in group 2. Two patients in group 2 had 4PD over correction. Postop pain score and subconjunctival hemorrhage score was lower in group 2 (0.9 and 0.6 vs 2 and 1.3, p=0.15 and p=0.17). Time taken was similar (15.5min vs 17.3min, p=0.6). Conclusion: Squint surgery with minimal dissection and nonuse of cautery was not inferior to conventional surgery.
