Aim
To document a case of Goldenhar syndrome presenting as limbal dermoids – A case report
Materials and methods
An 8 year old girl presented with fleshy painless masses on the cornea bilaterally with an irregular upper eyelid.On Clinical Examination limbal dermoids were present infero- temporally in both eyes, measuring 4x4mm (OD)3x3mm (OS) with eyelid coloboma on the right upper lid.Her cyclopegic refraction in both eyes was OD: +0.25 -2.50 x160, OS: +1.25-1.50 x 20.The limbal dermoids were excised by superficial keratectomy with a maximal depth under General anaesthesia.
Result
The astigmatism caused by the limbal dermoids has improved following excision with minimal corneal scar and no recurrence in the 1 year that followed. Refraction at follow-up(At 1 year) was OD: +1.50-1.75 x160, OS: +1.75 -1.00 x 20.
Conclusion
This case has been presented to highlight the importance of typical clinical findings,increase the awareness about this rare entity.Meticulous follow-up is advised.
