AIM: To study the visual outcome of pediatric aphakia correction with SF IOLs.
MATERIALS & METHODS: A retrospective cohort study conducted. Patients of surgical or non surgical pediatric aphakia with no zonular support were assessed and planned for sutured SF IOLs.Follow up records were maintained. All data was analysed by SPSS 22.
RESULTS:Out of 64 pediatric secondary IOL implantations, 15 (23.4%) underwent SFIOL with anterior vitrectomy. Mean age was 9.13+/-4.27 years, 12 (80%) male and 3(20%) female.Mean follow up period was 362 days. No significant difference was found between preoperative and postoperative BCVA. Postoperative complications were corneal edema, secondary glaucoma and vitreous hemorrhage. The main causes of diminision of vision were secondary glaucoma, amblyopia and optic atrophy.
CONCLUSION: Surgical correction of pediatric aphakia with SFIOL implantation is a safe but need more meticulous amblyopia management.
