Aim To assess compliance of spectacle wear in children with refractive error and to compare best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in those with and without good compliance
Methods: Children < 15 years wearing spectacles for refractive error were included. A questionnaire was administered to assess reasons for noncompliance. Spectacles wear > 50% of waking hours was considered as good compliance.
Results : Hundred children participated in the study. 68 children had good compliance with spectacle wear. 76 % spectacles were prescribed according to AAO guidelines. There was no statistically significant difference in BCVA between the compliant and non compliant groups.
Discussion: Though 1/3 of children were non compliant with spectacle wear, our study showed no difference in the final BCVA between the two groups.
Conclusions: In children with refractive errors, cumulative time of spectacle wear based on age and type of refractive error might be enough to prevent ammetropic amblyopia
