Chemical injuries are potentially disastrous form of ocular injury, posing as a true ocular emergency. Although many cases of chemical injuries belong to adults of working age group, pediatric cases deserve a special mention among them.
A 3 years old child was admitted to a tertiary care hospital after exposure to lime, which she accidentally applied around her left eye, considering it as a facial cream. Patient presented with epithelial defect and limbal ischemia, and was treated conservatively.
Awareness of parents regarding such accidental exposure of children to chemicals must be raised, in order to prevent blinding complications in this age group.
