Aim – to investigate the correlation between increased central macular thickness (CMT) and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) in the south indian population

Methods – 100 eyes with DME were included in the observational study and were evaluated using HD OCT for finding CMT.Measurements were computed and correlated with BCVA

Results- only a moderate correlation was found between CMT and BCVA .

Conclusion – a correlation was found in 46% of the cases and therefore CMT can not be used as a surrogate outcome for visual acuity changes
