Purpose:To statistically show effectiveness of INDIA’S mobile hospital train, in providing free of cost surgery to the rural poor using entire rail network
Methods:Permission from local authorities,planning,publicity & preparation.Preop evaluation of cataract, IOL power calculation.OT Fumigation,Instrument Sterilization. SICS with IOL. Postop UCVA, Steroid antibiotic & cycloplegic drops
Results:From 1991 till May 2018,193 Projects &1.4 lakh Surgeries done , in 130 districts of 19 States.
590 surgeries at Zahirabad in Sept.2014 is a random example of one of the projects. Pre & postop BCVA of 161 of these 590 patients were randomly selected & data applied in paired t test- 2 tailed hypothesis.Value of p<0.00001(significant at p<0.05) Conclusion:Results indicate it is a unique concept in combating cataract blindness virtually at doorstep of patients.It has been replicated with 4 trains in China, 2 in S.Africa, Riverboat Hosp in Bangladesh & Cambodia which proves its success & potential
