With the advent of modern cataract surgery (SICS and Phacoemulsification) combined with Intraocular lens(IOL) implantation, aphakia has become less common. It can still be encountered after complicated cataract surgery (post traumatic dislocation of the crystalline lens as well as capsular loss during cataract extraction) leaving insufficient capsular support for the IOL implantation in the sulcus. Options available to the surgeon to correct aphakia are glasses, contact lenses, keratorefractive surgery and intra-ocular lenses. The various IOL’S available are anterior chamber IOL, scleral fixated IOL and Iris Claw Lens. In our study of 6583 eyes that underwent cataract surgery over a period of 45 days, 18 eyes had aphakia out of which 16 were implanted with Iris Claw Lens. In a tertiary care eye hospital at the community level, considering the follow-up restrains and the volume of patients, the Iris Claw Lens proved to be the most effective and feasible option for aphakia.
