Our study aimed at estimating the prevalence of DED in the population aged above 55 years and evaluating the risk factors. It is a community based, cross sectional study. 1100 subjects participated in the study. Purposive sampling method is used by taking into study the first 30 subjects that were screened in the camp. Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI) and McMonnies Dry Eye Questionnaires(MDEQ),slit lamp examination, tear film meniscus height, presence of tear film debris and fuorescein TBUT noted. Ocular surface staining was done using fluorescein and lissamine green dyes followed by NEI workshop grading system. Grading done according to DEWS disease severity scoring. Prevalence of dry eye (Symptoms and signs positive) was found to be 5.7%.We found a lower prevalence of DED. 40.3% of the subjects had only symptoms positive for dry eye disease. The prevalence increased with age and was more common in women. MGD was common in elderly population and had a strong association with DED.
