The anterior sub-Tenon’s anesthesia, a new technique of local anesthetic administration has been used for 10 patients undergoing cataract extraction. The technique involves direct trans conjunctival infiltration of local anesthetic directly to the anterior sub-Tenon’s space, around the limbus, using a blunt 22-gauge intravenous plastic portion of an 22 G intravenous canula is attached on the syringe filled anesthetic solution. Lignocaine 2 % solution was used as anesthetic solution. Patients graded any discomfort or pain using a 10 cm visual analogue graphical pain score chart with numerical and descriptive rating scale. The operative procedure was graded with a median of ‘no pain or discomfort’, both for MSICS and phacoemulsification. This is a new, modified, sub-Tenon technique which is simple, reliable, and which offers excellent anesthesia. It avoids a sharp needles being passed into the orbit and also avoids needles related serious complications.
