Aim- To assess the relationship between basal metabolic rate and visual impairment mainly refractive error in primary school children in 5-12yr of age.
Materials and methods- a Crossectional study of 280 children of 3 district from 11 school are subjected to questionarre ,VA and physical examination,retinoscopy.relationship between BMI and refractive error was assessed by logistic regression and threshold effect analysis.Nonlinear relationship between the factors.p<.001 in BMI>20,obese with strong correlation with refractive error than normal or underwt children.
Conclusion-correlation exist so BMI is paramount imp to eye care provider.
