AIM:To evaluate orbital/adnexal injuries and assess their functional and cosmetic outcome in road traffic accidents(RTAs) METHODOLOGY: A hospital based study was conducted over a 1 year study period in which 110 patients of RTAS were evaluated for extent of adnexal injury and their functional and cosmetic outcome was noted after treatment. RESULTS: THE most common ocular manifestation of RTAS was periorbital oedema with ecchymosis in 80.8%. Lid injury was seen in 64% cases of which 30% were full thickness and 70% were partial thickness. Canalicular and lacrimal sac injury occurred in 4% while orbital wall fractures and tissue loss were found in 5% and 7% cases respectively. Good functional and cosmetic outcome was noted in 84% cases after treatment while it was average in 13%. CONCLUSION: Adnexal injuries are quite common after RTAS and satisfactory functional and cosmetic outcome can be achieved with proper intervention and efficient management.
