Aim: To evaluate association of optic nerve head (ONH) characteristics in eyes of Retinal vein occlusion (RVOs) eyes in tribal area of South Gujarat.
Methods: This was a retrospective observational study. We investigated 100 RVO eyes that were diagnosed in the retina clinic of our base hospital between January 2018 and April 2018. The observed prevalence of Glaucoma in the form of ONH cupping in RVO eyes was evaluated.
Results: A total of 112 RVO eyes of 100 patients were examined. Average age of the patients was 56%. There were 59% males and 41% were females. There were 70 BRVO (Branch RVO) eyes and 54 CRVO (Central RVO) eyes. The prevalence of 17.8 % (20/112 eyes) was noted for ONH cupping among all RVO eyes. All eyes had open angle glaucoma on gonioscopy.
Conclusions: RVOs and open angle glaucoma with ONH changes are associated with each other in the study carried out in tribal region of south Gujarat and it is advisable to get glaucoma check-up in all cases of RVOs.
