aim:to study the postoperative complications of paediatric cataract surgery (lens aspiration +PPC+AV + IOL implantation) in children upto 6 years of age.
methods: 100 eyes of 61 patients who underwent LA+PPC+AV+IOL for cataract (excluding traumatic cataract) were studied for the immediate, early and late postoperative complications upto 6 months post surgery.
results:out of the 100 eyes, 4 had zonular weakness on table and CTR was implanted. on postop day 1, 3 had inflammatory fibrinous reaction which resolved with steroids and mydriatics by day7. on postop day 7 , 2 had raised IOP which was controlled with anti glaucoma medications. on 1 month postop, 3 had raised IOP, was controlled well with anti glaucoma medications. 11 had fibrinous inflammatory membrane , 2 of them didnt resolve with steroids and mydriatics. they were advised membranectomy.
conclusion: a meticulous surgical planning gives optimal visual outcome with minimal complications in paediatric patients.
