Background: DCR with mucosal flap anastomosis has been the choice of surgical procedure for Chronic Dacryocystitis. However it is time consuming and flap related problems are not uncommon.
AIM- To compare the ease and efficacy of conventional vs flapless DCR .
Materials and method: This is a prospective randomized interventional study where conventional DCR (Group A)(n=110) was compared with Flapless DCR (Group B)(n=110) . Operative time ,functional success and complications were noted at each follow up visit till one year. Variables were analysed by paired t test.
Results: 84 were male and 136 were female.Mean age was50+- 8.Mean surgical time was 30+-5minutes in group A and 15+-5 minutes in group B(p<.05). Patent nasolacrimal duct was observed in 102 patients in group A and 100 patients in group B(p>.05) at the end of one year .
Conclusion: flapless DCR is safe ,effective and faster surgical modality for chronic dacryocystitis than conventional DCR method.
