Raised episcleral venous pressure is a known cause behind the rise in intraocular pressure in dysthyroid patients. Besides it has been postulated that the thyroid hormones alter the aqueous humour dynamics and the deposition of hyaluronic acid in trabecular meshwork may lead to the raised intraocular pressure.
The authors present the Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM) based analysis of angle structures in patients of Thyroid associated orbitopathy attending Thyroid Eye clinic
60 patients of thyroid associated orbitopathy attending Thyroid Eye Clinic were divided into hypothyroid, hyperthyroid and euthyroid. All patients underwent anterior segment examination, applanation tonometry, Ocular coherence tomography based Retinal nerve fibre analysis and UBM based assessment of angle structures.
