AIM: To identify bleb morphologies associated with lower intraocular pressures (IOP) following twin-site phaco-trabeculectomies.
METHODS: 124 patients with primary glaucoma and clinically significant cataract, undergoing a mitomycin C augmented twin-site phaco-trabeculectomy were followed up over a period of 6 months. In each visit, the bleb morphology was recorded using the Moorfields Bleb Grading System (MBGS). A correlation analysis was done between each parameter in the MBGS with the IOP in each visit. A p-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: Bleb height showed a statistically significant negative correlation with IOP in each of the post operative visits ( Spearmann’s ρ = -0.31, -0.43, -0.37, -0.40 and -0.28 with p values of 0.0005, <0.0001, <0.0001, <0.0001 and 0.0019 on post op days 1, 15, 30, 3 months and 6 months respectively). CONCLUSION: Following twin-site phaco-trabeculectomies, taller blebs are associated with better IOP control.
