FP1315 : SAFETY & EFFICACY OF TOPICAL TACROLIMUS 0.03% IN PTERYGIUM SURGERY

AIM

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of topical tacrolimus ointment 0.03% in pterygium surgery .

METHOD

Prospective study of 30 patients done over 8months(oct17-may 18) with 0.03% tacrolimus ointment topically applied 2 to 3 times per day.

RESULTS

Changes in subjective symptoms and objective signs after starting tacrolimus was evaluated and development of possible complications was noted after follow up for a mean duration of(5.3+/-3.2)months. Symptoms like itching ,redness,foreign body sensation were improved after treatment. Itching was dramatically relieved. No ocular complications related to tacrolimus was noted.

CONCLUSION

Topical Tacrolimus 0.03% ointment seemed to be effective as well as safe in patients with pterygium without recurrence.
