Aim:

To determine clinical presentation of lens status in terms of nuclear sclerosis and posterior subcapsular cataract (PSC) in central India.

Materials and Methods:

A population-based study on 6500 patients for prevalence of cataract was conducted between December 2017 to February 2018. Documentation of the lens status on slit-lamp examination to assess nuclear opacity and posterior subcapsular cataract. The grading was done by trained and professional examiners and the patients were subsequently operated.

Results:

Incidence of nuclear cataract occurred in 53.6%, PSC in 5.4% and combined nuclear sclerosis with PSC in 41.0% of eyes were noted. Women were more likely than men to have nuclear cataract.

Conclusion:

These data will help in planning operative care (ex, cataract surgery) and in investigating the importance of risk factors.
