A 19-year-male presented with gradually progressive painless protrusion of the right eye since 5 years. His visual acuity was 6/36, N18 in right eye. On further examination, 9 mm of proptosis in right eye with limited infraduction was noted. MRI scan revealed a well defined homogenous lesion in right inferior orbit. Incidentally another soft tissue lesion was identified in the left nasal cavity involving the nasal septum. The patient underwent complete excision of the orbital and nasal masses. Histopathology of the orbital mass was consistent with benign orbital schwannoma whereas nasal mass was suggestive of Rosai Dorfman disease, confirmed by immunohistochemistry.
This is the first case report describing coexisting orbital schwannoma with extranodal Rosai Dorfman disease. This report emphasizes the importance of individual tissue diagnosis of multiple space occupying lesions in different locations both for management and prognostic purposes.
