Purpose: To evaluate the ocular surface diseases(OSDs) in patients with glaucoma on anti glaucoma therapy
Methods: This prospective observation study enrolled 60patients with glaucoma who were using topical anti glaucoma medications as glaucoma group & control group including 60patients with no diagnosis of glaucoma or h/o of topical therapy usage. The study parameters were visual acuity, intraocular pressure, ocular surface evaluation parameters (fluorescein break up time(FTBUT), Schirmer’s test & ocular surface disease index scores (OSDI)
Results:The mean values in glaucoma group & control group were as follows:OSDI scores (43.98±15.06/5.08± 3.68;p=0.001)FTBUT(9.55±2.02s/11.81±1.82s p=0.001),Schirmer’score(7.43±2.77/13.68±1.53mm p=0.001)Dry eye severity level 2&3 seen.mean OSDI higher in patients using multiple drugs.
Conclusion: Significant OSDs is associated with glaucoma. The severity of OSDs symptoms is positively correlated to number of topical anti glaucoma medications used.
