Dr.AMRUTA KUMBHAR, A20507

Purpose: To study outcome of intravitreal bevacizumab versus laser in ROP Methods: Study included 24 eyes of 12 preterm infants with 32 weeks gestation or less with birthweight <1500gm with bilateral stage 3 zone 1 ,zone 2 and plus disease. After valid consent indirect laser photocoagulation was applied to right eye and intravitreal bevacizumab in left eyes under topical anaesthesia with systemic monitoring followed up for 6 months. Results:The study included 5 females ,7 males with mean gestational age of 29 weeks with mean birth weight 1005gm.The mean gestational age at which threshold ROP was detected was 36weeks. All 24 eyes had stage 3 with plus disease All 24 eyes had regressed neovacular activity In laser group mean gestational age was 39 weeks. In bevacizumab its 38 weeks. Intravitreal bevacizumab seems as effective as laser therapy with advantage of preservation of peripheral visual field. Although no short term systemic side effects were noted, the long term safety is unknown.
