AIM: To assess the correlation of donor age with ECD & other epidemiological factors (gender, economic status SES, cause of death, lens status, medical history). METHODS: History, epidemiological data, ECD of 65 donors(n=129 eyeballs) were analyzed. RESULTS: Of 65 donors, 42(64.6%) were males(M);75.38% belonged to higher SES. 43 donors(66.15%) were >60yrs.100% of <60yr group (MCD 2826;ECD>2500 in 81.43%) & 54% of >60group (MCD 2492; ECD >2500 in 52.23%) were phakic. Among pseudophakics (46% of>60 group), MCD was 2094; 7.5% had ECD>2500. Major cause of death in >60 group (27M, 16F), was MI (50.6%); 63.5% had prior h/o hypertension(HT).In <60 group(15M, 7F), 27.27% died of road accidents. Alcohol overdose was another major cause of death in 27% males as cardiac disease was in 43%females of this group.In<60 group, 43%M & 33%F had h/o prior HT. Conclusion:Age has direct bearing on ECD as also on cause of death & morbidity.Eye donation was more among higher SES &males.
